The Send It Foundation was founded by Truckee local, Jamie Schou after his diagnosis with a rare cancer at the age of 33. Upon his diagnosis, the expression “send it'' took on a whole new meaning. For Jamie, his ‘someday’ became ‘today’ and with every break in treatment he skied, biked, paddled, and generally sent it. It was the pursuit of these adventures that brought him joy and strength through his illness - and made him feel alive when so much of his life and physical strength had been compromised. He also felt the unique type of isolation that comes with having cancer as someone his age. In the final year of his life, Jamie founded the Send It Foundation to share the power of outdoor adventure and community with other young adults facing cancer.

The Send It Foundation provides free, week-long outdoor adventures for young adults facing cancer – from skiing Tahoe’s slopes and rock climbing at Donner Pass to backpacking in the Sierras, creating a vital community through shared experience.

Over the past decade, Send It has hosted over 75 multi-day adventure programs, impacting countless lives and creating a nationwide community. As we grow to meet the needs of over 700 individuals on our waitlist, we plan to offer 16 programs in 2025 and 20 annually by 2027—all while staying true to Jamie’s vision.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Send It Foundation. To our volunteers, supporters, and partners in this incredible community—thank you. Your support makes it possible to continue offering life-changing experiences to young adults navigating the challenges of cancer.
