What is Give Back Tahoe Giving Season?

The Give Back Tahoe Giving Guide is an online giving portal and awareness campaign that provides nonprofits the opportunity to gain exposure to - and start relationships with - new donors. For the giving season, those passionate about the North Lake Tahoe community come together to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofits during the end-of-year giving season.  

When is the 2017 Giving Season? 

The Giving Season begins on #GivingTuesday, November 28th, and runs through December 31st at 11:59pm. The season of Challenge Grants will last from November 28th-December 12th. The printed directory of the Giving Guide will be available before the Giving Season begins. 


Who can donate?

Anyone with access to the internet who is using their own credit card information. Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation fundholders can also donate through their private funds.

What is a "unique donor"?

For the purposes of awarding challenge grant prizes, a unique donor is one individual or corporation/business. Multiple donations from one donor to the same nonprofit will count as one gift. Organizations cannot donate to themselves.

What are "Challenge Grants?" How do I participate?

For the 2017 Giving Giving Season, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation will facilitate a two-week period of Challenge Grants (November 28th-December 12th) that will award $50,000 in total to nonprofits and their networks for exemplary fundraising accomplishments. The Challenge Grants include day long and campaign long prizes, and can help nonprofits win thousands of dollars. This is all thanks to the generosity of TTCF donors. Learn more

What is the "Leader Board?"

The Leader Board tracks your favorite nonprofits' progress so that you can see how they are doing on the Challenge Grants and in their efforts to achieve their year-end goals. 

What forms of donations are accepted?

MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express or donations received through private funds held at Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation.

Are gifts tax-deductible?

All donations are tax deductible and irrevocable and will be for the unrestricted use of your chosen charity.

Is there a minimum gift?

There is no minimum gift.

How can I give to multiple organizations?

On the donation form there is the option to select multiple organizations to donate to while processing only once.

How can I make a gift "In Honor of" or "In Memory of" someone?

On the donation form, you may use the Notes field to include a note that your gift was made in honor of or in memory of someone. That information will be passed on to the nonprofit(s) of your choice.

What if I can't find my favorite nonprofit on the website?

If you can't find them on the website, perhaps they changed their name recently or have a fiscal sponsorship. Visit their website or contact them to find out if this is the case. If you find they are not participating in the campaign, encourage them to!

May I pay a pledge with my Give Back Tahoe Giving Season gift?

No. Give Back Tahoe is designed to generate new support, not to pay off existing pledges.

How much of the donation will go to the nonprofit?

All donations will be paid to the chosen charity net of credit card processing flat flee of 2.49% plus $0.30 per transaction, plus a Kimbia platform fee of 3.00% per transaction. Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation does not receive any revenue from the transaction processing fees. Donors will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount. 

Is there a fee charged for the online credit card gifts?

The online gift-processing fee paid by the nonprofitis a flat fee of 2.49% plus $0.30 per transaction, plus a Kimbia platform fee of 3.00% per transaction.

Can I elect to cover the costs of the credit card fee and the platform fee for the nonprofit? 


May I designate how a nonprofit uses my gift?

Give Back Tahoe Giving Season gifts are considered unrestricted gifts to the nonprofit and they are an opportunity to provide nonprofit organizations with much needed, unrestricted dollars that are often difficult to obtain through grants and other funding sources. However, you may express your desire that your gift be used for a specific program or project in the Notes field of the giving form.

Can I make my donation over the phone?

Yes. You can call the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation at 530-578-1776. 

Can I use my smart phone to make a donation?

You can use a smart phone that allows you to make a credit/debit card purchases straight from the mobile version of this site.

May I use my donation to buy event tickets, museum memberships, or other things that provide me a benefit?

No, donations may not be used to pay for anything that might be perceived as a material benefit to the donor including dinner tickets, membership fees, golf fees, admission tickets, raffle tickets, event sponsorships or other gifts.

Can my company match my gift?

Yes! Make your gift, complete your company's matching form, and follow your company's matching procedures as usual. When your company sends their matching gift to the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, we will send a check to the nonprofits you supported.

How do I find out if my company or my spouse's company will match my donation? 

There is a good chance that your company will match any donations you make, sometimes up to $15,000! Ask your human resources department, or search your organization's name on this site to find out how to make your donation go further.


What organizations are eligible for Give Back Tahoe Giving Season?

Nonprofit organizations with a physical location/mailing address in North Lake Tahoe serving the communities in the Central Sierras Region to include West and North Lake Shore, Donner Summit, Olympic Valley, Martis Valley and Truckee. To register,eligible nonprofits should use the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation common application and select to register for the Giving Guide. Register August 1 - August 31, 2017.

Are there any benefits to participating in the Giving Season if we already have a traditional year-end campaign? 

The Give Back Tahoe Giving Season was developed to encourage our entire region and the people who love it here to come together in the spirit of generosity and community. When organizations participate, we are able to measure more accurately the ways that our community rallied around our nonprofits. Added benefits include: an article in Sierra Sun, our local newspaper, a place in the printed directory, and media exposure to the larger community that you may not already receive.
